Abstract

For biostratigraphic studies based on calcareous nannofossils, late Cretaceous deposits in the Basiran section (northwest of Nehbandan) with 137 m were sampled. This section consists of sandstone, marly limestone, conglomerate, and marl. Based on taxonomical studies 18 genus belong to 34 species of nannofossils were identified. According to the calcareous nannofossils identified in this section, the CC20, CC21, CC22, CC23, CC24, CC25 and CC26 biozones were determined for the studied thickness. Based on determined biozones, age of the studied sequence in this section late early Campanian to late Maastrichtian was suggested. For paleoecological studies about 300 species were counted in each sample and their percentages were determined. According to paleoecological studies, sedimentary basin of the investigated deposits has relatively warm temperatures and located in low latitude.
